Transfer of land ........
It appears in the Hobart Gazette under administration of effects...........
Administration of the Land and goods and C of ****
The document actually summons the members of the family or those receiving
goods or chattells etc.........to shew cause unto this Honourable Court why
administration of all singular the lands goods chattels rights and credits
and effects of the deceased within the Island of Tasmania and the
dependencies thereof of the said deceased intestate as hath been represented
These notices often excluded the wife from inheriting the land and she then
had to show cause why she should receive it ..........
wishing to know more then contact me off list......
I have few of these but have not ever indexed them..........for a few

Subject: [AUS-Tas] Transfer of land title
I wonder if someone would know what records may be accessible in regard to
transfer of ownership.
Let me explain.
We have a lady, who upon the death of her husband, (in Tasmania), is then
as the owner of the land previously recorded as owned by him.(this
is from the assessment roll)
In 1883, or 1884 the owner of the land is then shown to be the
We presume the lady has died but can't find any death record for
have also tried Victoria and South Australia, as children were supposed to
be living there.
To the best of our knowledge, there isn't a will.
The son who is now the owner in 1884 isn't the eldest, or even second
son, and so we are curious about why he got the land, and whether his
mother had died, etc.
Some one did suggest that if there isn't a will there is some
process which would have been documented for the land to have changed
Does any one know what it is, and whether there is a way for us to
out about the particular details.
