I've found War Service records from National Archives give a lot of personal details
and solved a similar problem to yours. There is at least one Cecil Gower who enlisted in
WWII so you could be in luck. Use "Cecil" and "Gower" as search words
and you get a few interesting things.
I use it for all the WWI records that have been digitised but not sure if it's the
best plce to go for WWII. Perhaps another lister can help with that.

Subject: [AUS-Tas] Anyone have information on Cecil Gower ?
I'm still chasing up my late mother's family background (daughter of
Lill Oxenbridge and William Gower - grandson of Dolly Dalrymple)
In a family history of my late father's family - descended from William
Brown and Margaret Jane Graham - there is a mention of :
Ruby Ann Hinds b. 20th Aug 1894 d 26th June 1926, Married George Triffett.
they apparently couldn't have their own children so fosters a child
called "Cecil Gower"
The family history doesn't have any further information about this Cecil
Gower so I'm wondering if
any lister has a link to this Cecil Gower -
I'm curious about his as he could be one of the five children William
Gower brought back to Tasmania in 1920 after his wife died soon after my
mother was born in Invercargill (Mum was adopted by a NZ couple and
remained in NZ)
I have the names of four of Mum's siblings, William (Jnr), Iris, Ida and
Cliff Gower and I think there was a Dan Gower from memory, but now
wonder if this Cecil Gower was one of this family too?
