From memory, there was a township of Ramsgate planned (but never built) for
the Recherche Bay area. I recall seeing an old plan of this proposed
township (possibly at the Tas State Archives).
When researching the Hobart bookman William Legrand & various 19th century
Recherche Bay residents long ago, I also found variations in settlement
names -- Catamaran, Cockle Creek, Recherche Bay, Moss Glen. When Legrand
visited in 1869, he commented on the thick scrub in the Catamaran Creek
A really wonderful little book if you can get hold of it is Bruce Poulson's
RECHERCHE BAY: A SHORT HISTORY OF RECHERCHE BAY, published by the Management
Committee of the Southport Community Centre, 2004. It also has a good, clear
map showing & naming the various areas around the Bay.
I might still have some bits & pieces about the settlement, if the people
you are researching were there around the time of Legrand's visit.

Subject: [AUS-Tas] RAMSGATE
A query I have as I am confused...is Ramsgate a place or as I have found on
maps a beach? Some births at Catamaran some at Ramsgate.
