The Glenorchy Council is conducting a simular program that was carried out
in the Chigwell-Claremont district in 2004. The 2009 program is to be
centered around the West Moonah/Springfield/Merton area.
The first part of this project will be conducted in the Moonah Arts Centre
Saturday 2 May 2009 2:00-5:00, with the opening of the complete work
Wednesday 5 August 2009 until Wednesday 19 August 2009.
The project is called Mountains, Mud and Migrants - A History of West
From the late 1820 many ex-convicts were granted land in and around
part of Glenorchy as were migrants in latter years.
I would specially be interested if anyone can help with the early Merton
farms, orchards and wood cutting.
Anyone who may have grown up in any of the above suburbs are invited to
attend, also if there is anyone who has stories to tell or photos of their
lives or that of their families would thet please get in touch with me by
email, phone or mail, or bring them to the Moonah Arts Centre on Saturday 2
