Does a reader of the list have any knowledge of an index or where I
look please for the landowner who my ancester was assigned to at White
Hills, in the Sorell area in 1850 - 1855? His name was Edward Donovan.
Lists of convict assignments appeared in the "Hobart Town Gazette", which
is available for viewing on microfilm in several places, including the
Tasmanian State Archives and the Launceston Reference Library.
Was this his first assignment? If it was and you know the name of the ship
he arrived on and the date that the ship arrived in VDL, then the list of
assignments for the convicts on that ship will probably appear in the HTG
about two weeks or so after the arrival.
If it was a reassignment, then the search will be a little bit more
difficult because the search will need to cover a wider time period.
If you privately send me the details, I'll see if I can find out on my next
trip to the library, which should be this Saturday morning, assuming that
the kimchi that Meryl's boarder's Korean girlfriend has promised to bring
for me on Friday night doesn't do me in first. ;-)
