Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi,
for those of you still thinking of having your DNA tested or a Christmas
present for someone else, Ancestry.com have their lowest price of the year
at $88 dollars until Monday and I think Family tree dna ends their
thanksgiving sale and upgrades today, 28th November.. I updated from a Y67
marker yesterday to Y111 and it cost $69usd. I have nothing to gain from
this except a new family member.
I have an interest in others taking the test only because the more that do
the better my chances of finding and breaking down any brick walls I have
and I have about three currently over three families on my former husbands
side. I need at least some more men taking the YDNA test preferably the Y67
but the Y37 marker test would be good for starters then upgrade as can be
afforded. I need a male line for our McArthur. Then the autosomal tests to
compliment the YDNA tests. We have five out of six members of my family
already tested, so we now hope others will come on board. One is a
Tasmanian YDNA test we need someone to do for the William WELLS who
married Maria GRIFFIN, we have yet to find where he was from -several
theories but none have been correct so far according to death and burial
locations. However it could be he arrived free as Peter Oakley pointed out
to me a fortnight ago, but several free William WELLS as seaman etc;, so
please if anyone from that union of William and Maria can have the test
that would be super. We need you.

As a descendant of Allen and Bridget Amelia Airey, I find it very irritating that many Airey trees in Ancestry wrongly list ROBERT MCCALL AIREY as one of their children.
They did have a son Robert Airey, born at Westbury in 1856, but he was ROBERT JAMES AIREY, who married Sarah Rusden in Launceston in 1890, and died in Launceston in 1915.
Robert McCall Airey was born in Sunderland, England abt 1856. He married Catherine Grubb in Stanley in 1899, and the marriage registration names his parents as Henry Airey (draper) and Elizabeth Watson, of Wearmouth, Durham, England. He is listed in their household in the UK 1861 census. He was a mariner, and died in 1922.
There are many Airey trees on Ancestry, so hopefully those who have the incorrect information will correct it.

her parents named as Clark on the reference to marriage in 1908? There is
an article in Examiner from 1898 which references the Fritchleys of

Gary is my first cousin and I have his year of birth but not the actual date and I always assumed he was born in Hobart.
I also did not know of his second name, but Denholm is part of his father's name.
I saw him a few times as a child, but know nothing of him since then.
His mother was Clarice Mabel/Isabel (that last name popped up from somewhere) - known as "Cissy", MANSFIELD.
My father's oldest sister.

My great grandfather Garnet Rupert Gourlay was also travelling on the Miss Hobart when it crashed.
The tragedy was felt keenly on both sides of Bass Strait.
So far, as far as I know: and I would love to be corrected; the wreck of the Miss Hobart in Waratah Bay has not been found.
From today’s perspective, it does seem it would have been very easy to blame Victor Holyman, and I am sure de Havilland would have pushed this scenario (possible furphy) at any inquiry.
If anyone has any further information, the family would be very appreciative.

have found the right William Wells on board the Ship Shamrock on
libraries Tas, in 1850 I have seen a list with Wm WELLS going to
Melbourne with Alfred Wells in 1852 before on the shamrock in 1852, It
listed him coming to the Colony on the Shamrock, but I found another
that he went Steerage on the Shamrock in 1852 a different list and he
came to the Colony on the Triton.

find his return trip to Tasmania as it would help to prove he was the
William who Maria married. Her father may of wanted him to get some
money behind him before he gave his permission to marry Maria. I was
given the Affadavit from Maria's father for William to marry her, last
year. That Wells researcher favors the other William off the Anson, but
he had a wife back in England so it to is hard to know for sure either,
but he was not the one with Alfred on the Melbourne trips.

In this passenger list 1852 William WELLS appears to be with Alfred
WELLS who married Martha WELLS. That is assuming this William WELLS was
definitely William WELLS off the Triton as in the 1850 trip to
Melbourne. Alfred wasnt married to Martha GRIFFIN, sister of Williams
wife Maria in 1850, but was in 1852.

Just in case there is anyone on the list who have this William WELLS in

The lady volunteer at Evandale Historical society, I purchased some
papers from, did tell me there was a William WELLS off the Triton, who
was engaged as Overseer on a farm and did name the Farmer, but she never
sent me that detail amongst the papers. So I may need to send her
another email to see if she will send it to me as that will prove it was

The only thing I worry about is that the Triton William, who arrived19
Dec 1842, born Springthorpe, Lincoln, aged 23, born c1819. His father
was Richard, dead and mother Ann. There were no siblings mentioned.
Maria never had her first child till she was 18, a daughter was born 1
Jan 1852. More than two years after marriage. Could be William made
several such trips.

still haven't found the correct William WELLS 30 Bachelor and Maria
GRIFFIN 16 who were married in Morven in 1850 a year after Maria
GRIFFINs arrival in Morven, aged 15. What I don't still know is which
William WELLS it was. There were two assigned to Evandale. Both went
off to other assignments during that time. One to Deloraine and one to
Emu Bay. I cannot find any other William WELLS in the Emu Bay that are
not familiar to me this end. Most can be accounted for. I do not know
if anyone out there in Deloraine, has the family of a William WELLS
settle there as then he can be eliminated as our William WELLS . One of
them appears to have resettled back into Evandale early on, maybe a
short assignment elsewhere then back to Evandale. One William was from
the 'Triton' and the other from the 'Anson'.>
