Happy new year everyone 🍸🍾🎊🎉
My interest is in descendants of Henry Andrew ROSS Transported from Norwich Norfolk 1845 leaving his wife and three children behind He was a Weaver and was caught fencing silk His co accused was John Dover the chartist leader in Norwich - There were lots of Chartists riots at the time of their arrest so its likely the powers that be were happy to ship their leader and cohort to Tasmania
He married Irish fellow convict Ellen MADDEN aged 27 1852 in Launceston He was a lease holder in Selby doesn’t look like an inn license ?? Leased from Thomas Brugh Henry also worked a dairy man in Invermay and got in to trouble for watering the milk !!!
Their daughter Jane married James W SMITH in Hobart 3 sept 1896 His parents were Thomas John Smith m Emily EDMONDs
Daughter Eliza Ellen m James REID 1875 Launceston They had 6 children Son David Henry Reid m Ada HAMMESLEY Launceston He died Bangor 1943 They had a son Alfred Henry b 25 jan 1898

Daughter Bridget Agnes c 1863 married John CURRY of thistle street Hobart died

I have not found a son for Henry and Ellen ??
In 1864 Henry Ross and David HARRIS were fined 5s for keeping a dog on their property without a license No idea who David Harris is
Henry died 17 nov 1889 at home Gleadow st inveresk aged 79
I have been researching Henry Ross for nearly 20 years initially I could not find his birth record because he called himself Henry on my gt grandmothers x 3 birth certificate but he was christened Andrew Henry - son of Bridget and Andrew Ross of Norwich I have quite abit of info on his Uk family and have been hoping to make contact with his tassie descendants

I've really enjoyed reading the snippets attached to each Roll Call entry.
Our family is descended from one Thomas Coughlan (the surname can be spelt in a dozen or more different ways), who was in northern Tasmania in early 1850.
It may have been the Thomas Coghlan/Coghlin (husband of Bridget, nee Meagher/Maher) who died at Swansea on 21 Oct 1879. I'd love to hear from any of their descendants (descendants of their children Mary, Michael, John, Thomas, Mary Ann, etc.).
I'd be very pleased to exchange info about him with anyone who has an interest.

I am hoping to find information on the following:
H*AIMES, Richard.* some times recorded as HAINES
Richard arrived with his wife Margaret in Hobart about 1826.
They were from Ireland and he was a Redcoat. There first born Richard had
been born in Ireland and there second son John in Sydney during a short
time spent there.
*1827 HAIMES, Anna *(Anne) was baptised in Hobart.
There is a marriage for Richard HAIMES and Margaret MAHER in Hobart in 1827
but I think this was just renewing of an original marriage in Ireland a few
*1831 HAINES, David* was babtised in Launceston
*1833 Richard HAIMES* Death in Georgetown, Tasmania
by this time he was a publican and on his death his wife took over the
liscence of the* Waterloo Tavern, Georgetown*
1*835 Margaret HAIMES* remarried to *George Thomas WILSON* at Georgetown,
*1841* George Thomas WILSON is recorded in the newspaper as insolvent;
*1847 Anne HAIMES* marries *William Michael HARDCASTLE* at Geelong,
Victoria and they return to Tasmania innitially to Hobart and then
Launceston where in-
*1853 Anne HARDCASTLE* dies shortly after giving birth to thier 3rd child
I have not found any records for *David HAIMES/HAINES* other than his 1827
Baptism and would love to know what happened to him.
I would also like to know what happened to *Margaret and George WILSON*
after there marriage I know for a short time at least that they were hotel
publican's in Georgetown and then the last think I have found on them is
that they were witnesses at Anne's wedding in 1847.
Any information or help would be much appreciated
Thankyou and all the best everyone for 2019
Rev Henry and his wife, Elizabeth, Launceston after 1834
Their son, Henry, second mayor of Launceston
John Dowling and his wife Cecilia née Lord.
Her sister, Lavinia and her husband, Henry Mundy, artist
Descendants whose name was/is Palliser.
I would love to know if any Pallisers are in Tasmania.
I forgot one, namely, John SILCOCK and possibly another, Alfred SELF who married Mary Ann HARTNELL.
The Silcock line are a fascinating family, having made a marvellous contribution to both Victoria and Australia over the generations.

People who went from Australia and New Zealand to the Goldfields in
California were known as the Forty-Niners. Seven thousand Australian and
New Zealanders went. Between 1849-50 there were over two hundred sailings
and few struck it rich.
If interested in the topic a book to read is Gold Fleet for California
Forty-Niners from Australia and New Zealand by Charles Bateson, published by
Minerva and is indexed.

Hi - I am interested in the STUART family and welcome contact from those
who may link into our tree.
Andrew Thomas STUART and Mary (GILMOUR) arrived Williamstown in approx.
1841 and then down to Tasmania by 1843.
Other family names include Wilson, Rheuben, Elliott, Nichols, Rumney, More,
Green Logan, O'Connor and Rogers.
Hi Julie from NZ
It is sometime since I have been on here. The names I am researching in
David REID and his wife Elizabeth BUCHAN born in Angus, Scotland and 3
children who came out on the Broomielaw in 1857, lived around Launceston,
Bangor, Lilydale and Tunnell. Their son Alexander married and came to NZ.
I have made a couple of connections through DNA for the REID family. Have
quite a bit of information on the REID family back in Scotland but do not
know a lot of their life in Tasmania.
BEUTTENMULLER or MILLER , who came from Germany on the Montmorency 2 x great
grandfather Johan Jakob BEUTTENMULLER, (John Jacob MILLER) His daughter
Charlotte Maria married Alexander REID
OLDFIELD: Harriett and Maria, the latter the wife of Johan Jakob. Harriett
came out as a convict and married William GARNER. I do not know a lot about
this family back in England
I also have an interest in the surname RYDE/RIDE/WRIDE/ATTRIDE as I am doing
a one name study on this and belong to the Guild of One Name Studies. I am
hoping to track down my 3 x great grandfather George Ride and his parents.
He was said to be born in Newport, Isle of Wight but have not found anything
on this except what was on 1841 census. He and his wife and family were
living in Sittingbourne, Kent from when he married so I have not been able
to find anything about him before then.
Best wishes for a happy new genealogy year!

I am researching convicts Patrick EARL(E)Y who arrived in Tasmania on the
ship 'Sisters" from New Zealand, September 1849.
He married Mary FORD / DUFFY / DREW who arrived from Ireland.
Is anyone researching either of these folk, if so I would love to hear from
My ancestors arriving in Tasmania are:
William Robertson b 3-02-1795 and wife Marion nee McGilchrist b 23-04-1793
with family from Scotland on "Thomas" on 27-02-1833. Encouraged by John
Fawkner the family moved to Melbourne around 1840.
Benjamin Travers Solly b 24-08-1820 and wife Jane Isabella nee Watts b
17-05-1832 arrived from Adelaide 1856. Colonial Secretary/Under Secretary
I would appreciate hearing from any lister who has these people and/or
descendants in their records.
My convict ancestors are:
John CAVANAGH, arrived 'Minerva', 7 June 1818. Police No: 98.
Johanna/Anna LYNCH, arrived NSW on 'Janus' 1819, trans-shipped almost
immediately to VDL on 'Princess Charlotte'.
George BREADMORE (later BRADMORE), arrived 'Chapman, 1826
Charles NIBBS/KNIBBS, arrived 'Phoenix', 1824.
I think I have these four convicts under control - but my HUGE brick wall is
Henry BROWN, store-keeper at Hamilton, 1835; innkeeper at
'The-Bird-in-Hand', Hamilton, 1837, 1838; married my gg grandmother Ann
BARBER nee GREENNOW, 1839; innkeeper at 'The Mail Coach Inn', Hamilton,
1840; innkeeper at 'The New Inn', Hamilton, until his death in 1855. A
difficult name to research. I can find nothing of his origins. I think
there were at least eighteen convicts of that name - some are easy to
eliminate but not all. When, how did this Henry BROWN arrive in VDL? Was he
Very best New Year wishes to all. Don Bradmore, Central Viuctoria.
What a great idea, having a roll call.
We are researching my husband’s grandfather:
James McNamara illegitimate son of widowed Mary Morrison nee Quill and John McNamara whom she later married.
We know :
James McNamara was baptised in West Hobart at St Joseph’s Church April 1864. His birth wasn’t registered in according to BMD records.
We are trying to fill a big gap between his baptism 1864 in Hobart and his popping up in WA in 1892 a gap of 28 yrs. We haven’t traced him at school, serving his apprenticeship, whether he married in Tassie, where he worked other than several voyages signing on as an able seaman.
We even wonder if he went to NZ as his stepbrother Samuel (aka Bertie Askin Morrison) was involved in whaling off Otago NZ. We also wonder if he went to South Africa because his sister (can’t think which one off the top of my head) was in South Africa for a while with her husband.
We don’t know how he entered WA, whether he came overland as we haven’t found a record of his entering WA from the eastern states by ship. He might have entered by ship from South Africa.
We know he:
witnessed his stepsister Fanny’s wedding in Launceston, using the name James Morrison.
married Alice Gee at Trinity Church in Perth in 1892 signing his name as James Montague Morrison born in Sale Victoria in 1866, no trace of him in Sale.
assumed the name James Montague Morrison till he died.
answered an Ad in the West Australian newspaper, posted by the Wahroongah’s ship’s carpenter asking ‘James McNamara sometimes know as James Morrisson , late of Hobart’ to contact him.
signed on as a ship’s carpenter on the Wahroongah out of Fremantle WA to Geraldton WA to mend camel stalls broken coming across the Bight.
lived in Bunbury WA as did his step brother Samuel (aka Bertie Askin Morrison) who stayed in Bunbury to found a Morrison dynasty in Kirup/Bunbury WA.
as, James Montague Morrison, bought the Morrison/McNamara family home in Alison St West Hobart from his step brother Samuel (aka Bertie Askin Morrison).
moved to Perth WA, lived at 6 Carr Street Leederville WA with Alice, while he was working at Government House Perth as a carpenter joiner.
worked as a carpenter all his life
worked on the construction a Hotel in Collie WA , don’t know which Hotel.
died in 1938 at his home in Preston Street Como WA.
Any little clue will be much appreciated,
Have a great 2019,
