Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
It means 8 months (8 mos) .. probably on the public works (P.W.) gang etc

A non internet friend has just recieved a copy of the convict charges of
one of her ancestors. We are puzzling over a note in it. It looks like 8
mos on the town /Tawn/ pawn/pawm. It is hard to decide just which is the
spelling , can anyone help. There are several other convict records on the

Have you put your family details into "First Families 2000"?
It is a great place to lookup names and I have had some luck in
connecting with family members.

Some of you are not aware that Tasmanian Convict Records on microfilm are
available in state libraries and genealogical societies around Australia or
New Zealand, and that you don't have to write to the Archives Office of
Tasmania (AOT) in Hobart for them.
I would like to hear from you if you know of a library, LDS centre or
society which has a copy of these holdings or any other Tasmania convicts
records like the AJCP reels. I'm sure we can all benefit by passing this
information on to others.

Looking for information on Isaac KENT arrived Hobart on board barque
AUSTRALASIA June 31 1855 age about 14to16 crew
was on board when it was wrecked further up the Australian coast,
returned to Hobart the served 10 months on the whaler ANNIE LAURIE.
Went to NZ goldfields about 1860 then took up farming in the Wairoa
Married for a second time Elizabeth BYRON in Tasmania also collected a
heritage from his uncles will who had died in Tasmania.
Returned to Wairoa NZ.
I would like to find out if possible his uncles will then I may be able
to trace any family lines back to London.
Also is there any information on the whaler ANNIE LAURIE.
Any help would be appreciated
