Is there anyone out there who is descended from Denis Hogan, convict,
and his wife Margaret nee Carey, immigrant, both from Ireland, Denis
from Tipperary and Margaret from "somewhere in Ireland", They had
three sons - James, John and Timothy, and a daughter Mary, but, to the
best of my knowledge John and James were the only ones to reach
adulthood and marry. Does anyone know what happened to Mary - did she
become a Nun, or is that someone else in the James Hogan line? Years
ago I was told that someone became a Nun. I think Timothy died about
1856. Both Denis and Margaret died early, Denis in 1850 and Margaret
I have researched the names from my ancestor John Hogan, b. 1842 who
married Frances Marjoram, and this couple had 13 children of whom I am
I am interested in hearing from anyone descended from James Hogan who
married Mary Jackson in 1867 in Newcastle, and who seem to have moved to
the Rylstone area (one of my favourite places, as I lived in the
Rylstone/Sofala area for some time). It seems to me that they had a
son John b. 1866 Rylstone; 1868 Patrick b. Binnalong or Rylstone; 1868,
Margaret M, Forbes - twins??or births at beginning and end of year;
1870 James R.; 1871 Michael, Rylstone; 1873 James Rylstone.
Then there seems to be a James and Mary A. Hogan in the Forbes, Parks,
Dubbo area, having children between 1868 and 1891 in the areas of
Parkes, Forbes, Dubbo and Uralla. Is this the same couple as above,
moving around the country-side, or is this another James and Mary?
Any help on the extended Hogan family would be appreciated,
Elizabeth Walker nee Hogan.
