Hello Lesley and everyone,
Today a wonderful helper from the Kiama Family History Centre found our
Henry Parkes (convict on Theresa arriving 1839 PJ NSW) having 2 references
in the Australian Genealogy Computer Index (NSAGs) which are dated:
1. Henry Parkes 13 Nov 1844 Convict Indulgence' Gov Gaz
NSAG NSW 1844 p1394
2. Henry Parkes 10 Oct 1845 Convict Indulgence' Gov Gaz
NSAG NSW 1845 p1128
Could SKS tell me what a 'Convict Indulgence' is please? And would anyone
have access to looking these up by any chance?
I'm almost certain that they would relate to his Ticket of Leave no: 44/2748
and dated 14 Nov 1844 and his Certificate of Freedom no? Dated 17 May 1845 -
(prison number 39/114).
We know his crime, trial venue (New Dailey Prison Salford) and sentence and
that he was instructed to stay in the Muswellbrook area from records on his
Ticket of Leave.
Henry ends up in the Bathurst/Wellington area marrying Marry Chapple in
As we cannot find any reference point for him, other than he came from
Lancashire (Manchester maybe) on any Australian records (children's births,
deaths marriage etc) we were hoping that these 'indulgences' may have more
factual data of his. (It's this 'hoping' that keeps us looking isn't
Thank you very much,
