Convicted Bedford Lent Assizes 1829 (with a group of local boys) for poaching pheasant on
the Duke of Bedford's estate.
Sentenced for 14 years, Francis was fortunate to escape the death penalty, as the
Duke's keeper was injured during "the affray"!
Arrived P.J. per "Mermaid" 1830.
Assigned to The Illawarra, to a Veteran Soldier.
Eventually married Isabella JAMES (arrived free) the daughter of Robert JAMES, a convict.
Francis took off to California in the '49 rush. Returned to the Illawarra to dairy
farm on his own property.
Died 1881 and is buried with Isabella who preceded him by a year. The AXAM grave is at St
Luke's Brownsville NSW.
