I cannot help with who his parents were...although he may be one of those
in the NSW BDMs. Your friend would have to purchase the Death Certificate.
According to my (various files within the PJ Convicts Anthology)
On the 20 February 1822 he was assigned to Joseph Charrington as part of
Duck River Bridge Party
He applied for permission to marry Elizabeth Mellon in October 1823 at
Parramatta. Elizabeth had been born in the colony.
On 21 November 1835 he received a Conditional Pardon. He had originally
tried and received a Life sentence.
According to the 1823/4/5 General Muster List he had been assigned to his
He received a Ticket of Leave in 1828.
He is listed incorrectly in the 1828 NSW Census as it states he arrived on
Granada and serving a 14 year sentence. His name is listed as Waldon. The

odd thing is that it appears as though Joseph Charrington (Cherrington)
he was assigned a few years previously was now working for him as a
On checking the AGCI (Government Gazettes 1832 - 1863) CD it appears as
he went bankrupt in April 1849 - may not be the same person but same
and living at Windsor. It is probably mentioned in the early newspapers
available on line.

Subject: [PJ] John WALDEN convict on the Coromandel 1820
Hi List ..
I am new here and am helping a friend research his family ..
The ancestor we are researching is .. John Walden .. convict .. born in
Chelmsford, Essex, England in 1795...
first wife Susan Fuller in England and then when he was in Australia his
wife was Elizabeth Mellon.,
they were married in St Johns, Parramatta, NSW .. 1823.
I would really like to find out more about where he was in Australia and
parents details .. etc ..
All we know is that he arrived in Sydney on the Coromandel in 1820.
Is there anyone researching the same family ?
