Good day all,
I have these references for him from the Colonial Secretary’s references:
“PARROTT William Neptune 1818 056/2331 15 Jul 1824 Certificate of Freedom
PARROTT William Neptune 1818 52/107 [no date] Ticket of Leave [4/4227; Reel 891] District:
Wollongong; Tried: Sydney SC”
I have some other newspaper references that say he was given a TOL in Wollongong. But I’m
wondering what the “Tried: Sydney SC” would refer to and where if I can find anything
online to clarify it. I gather SC might be Supreme Court and it wouldn’t surprise me.
He turned out a really nasty man despite (or because of) leaving a large Parrott dynasty
of whom I am one.
By the by, and it’s always interested me, how these men were so un-socialised - he was 17
when transported, an age many were, and their attitude to women because of the paucity of
the latter. How did that influence the psyche of their progeny?
Well that’s an aside.
If there is a way I can find what happened in Wollongong Supreme Court, I would be
grateful. I have a relative in Oz who may be able to physically check.
