The hardest puzzle of the lot. I have just about given up on finding John and am
hoping someone can give me any ideas.
I have John Williams jnr born about 1841. His first marriage cert lists his
parents as John Williams and Caroline Fields and his death cert. lists his place
of birth as Bathurst. I have found two siblings- William whose death cert states
his mother as Caroline Field and place of birth (abt 1846) near Orange and Sarah
whose death cert states parents as John Williams and Caroline Field, born abt
1844 at Emu Swamp, near Orange. When I searched for baptism records I can only
find a possible match for John and Sarah who were registered at Bathurst but
their residence is listed as the Lachlan River.
The only Caroline Field I can find was a convict on the Fanny 1832. Caroline
married James Dauber per Hindostan 1821 in 1835. James was sent to the
Wellington Valley and he and Caroline had a son in 1837 at Nurea (near
Wellington). I have searched and searched for some way to find a connection from
Caroline to any John Williams. I haven't been able to find a death for James or
The best possibilities I have are:
1.per the Minerva I(4) 1823 aged 30 from Kent. He was sent to Wellington Valley
too. He and James were also pardoned at the same time for the work they did
2. per the Baring 1818 aged 30 from Chester. He was a labourer to Rev T Hassall
at Bathurst (there are later connections between JW jnr and the Wesleyan
community at Byng (just down the road from Emu Swamp)).
3. per the Recovery 1819 from Lancashire. He was the Overseer at Molong Plains
from 1825 to at least 1827. He met many of the travellers going to the
Wellington Valley and would have been down around Nurea.
4. Per the Lady Castlereagh 1817. Was government servant to Captain Piper in
Sydney in 1825. He died at Wellington in 1848.
Any thoughts, anyone, please.
