I have a copy of a letter addressed to the Governor, Sir Thomas Brisbane from a Mr. James
Dodds, dated 1824 where Mr. Dodds is requesting a
"quantity of land (either as a ticket of reserve, or occupation), as is adequate to
Settlers of my class, and the other indulgencies entitled thereto". He goes onto
say that he has enough funds in his possession to support ten male convicts from H.M.
How can I find out if he was successful in his request for land?
What is a "ticket of reserve"?
What are the "other indulgencies entitled thereto"?
If his request for land was successful, is there any way to find out if he was assigned
