Were the agreements between the USGW Archives with RW, Census-Vue, etc
posted here on the list while I was on vacation? Sorry if I missed them.
If not, we're all here now, so this is a good time to post them.
Thanks,
Ellen
Ellen, we have had an agreement with Rootsweb since June/July 1996, and
we have a contract with SK Publications. The SK contract is a hard copy,
and I'm trying to get a digitized copy so I don't have to type the whole
thing.
Basically, the Rootsweb - USGenWeb Archives agreement says:
Rootsweb will provide server space for the USGenWeb Archives and provide
public access to the Archives with no fees or charges.
Rootsweb agrees to promote the USGenWeb Archives via the webpages, RWR,
etc.
The USGenWeb Archives agrees to maintain datasets in an attractive and
useful form to genealogists, and to provide public access to the
Archvies with no fees or charges.
The USGenWeb Archives is to be hosted by Rootsweb.
Neither party will place advertising on the Archives, unless both agree.
----
Let me also add, that major decisions concerning the USGenWeb Archives
are not made by one person, but by the agreement to such by the Archives
volunteers as a whole. The guidelines have been in place from the
beginning, and before anyone is handed account pwd's, they agree to
abide by those guidelines. Those guidelines have held the Archives
together and helped the Archives grow to 1.5 gigs of data.. freely
accessible and searchable.
