I am trying to find out what happened to my father's uncle, Johannes
Josephus HOEFFGEN.
He is shown on a passenger list intending to disembark at Dar-es-Salaam per
the "Kenya" in early 1956 (departed UK 30 Dec 1955 on way to Mozambique) and
I have located a naturalisation document for him in the National
Archives(UK) from about 1956. I'm presuming that this would have been
British nationality but am not sure. I've ordered a copy so I don't know how
much information it will contain yet.
What I do know of him:
Date of Birth: 16 Jul 1906
Place of birth: Rotterdam, Holland
At some point he became a citizen of Tanganyka, according to the passenger
list - it states his current nationality as shown in passport as Tanganyika,
his last and future places of residence for more than 12 months as
Tanganyika.
Marital status in 1955: single, but there is a family story that he married
in Africa and didn't go back to Holland
Profession: On the passenger list it states he was a Foreman-Operator but
the family story is he went to Africa to become a missionary. The family was
Roman Catholic.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I could find out more about
what happened to him?
Thanks
